A Note from the Directors

Dear Families, Friends and Supporters of Camp Krem,

We hope you had a beautiful Thanksgiving with your loved ones and are having a very happy holiday season.

Here at Camp Krem, we are very thankful for our volunteers. Despite the dismal weather a few weeks ago, many hard working, helpful individuals showed up to volunteer! Thanks go to Boy Scout Troop 604’s Liam Fitzgerald, Dominick Butaitis, Wesley Jones, James Thompson, Tyler Segal, Dean Ricigliano and Gabe Johnston, led by Scoutmaster Jono Reksoatmodjo, together with Matthew Jones and our own George White. They braved the rain and accomplished much.

We also want to thank Ralph Fistonich, Balicia Emberbate, Sherry Dean and Jesse Dresbach from Well’s Fargo’s Scotts Valley Branch, who worked tirelessly on erosion control by our pool and made huge strides in our Giving Tuesday note writing campaign.

Our thanks to the many other volunteers who made our recent workdays a success, including Gaslight Groups Glen Barrett, Jenny Lemons, Patricia Sager and Max Barber, who did much needed maintenance in the dining hall and advanced our note writing campaign nicely.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to extend a HUGE thank you to everybody who donated to our Giving Tuesday campaign to rebuild our playground. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our extended community and are now so much closer to making the dream of a more inclusive playground a reality! We aren’t done yet! See more about our Playground Fundraiser below.

Thank you all! Camp Krem exists and thrives because of the kindness and generosity of volunteers like you.

With gratitude,
Christina Krem and Katie Giampa

In Memory of Erik McInroy
2/21/90  –  11/14/16

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Erik McInroy, one of our long-time campers. Those of you who knew Erik will remember fondly how his enthusiasm would animate a crowd and how he was a friend to everyone he met. Our thoughts are with Erik’s family during this sad time.

Erik lived life with joy and fervor. When we think of Erik, we immediately think of his enormous smile, his stellar dance moves and the way he would lead us all in song! We will remember Erik every time we sing ‘The Bear Song’, which was one of his favorites.

The McInroy family has started a scholarship fund in Erik’s honor, to help families in need send their camper to Camp Krem. What a wonderful way for Erik’s name to live on.

There will be a celebration of Erik’s life on January 29th at 6 p.m., held at Chabot Space and Science Center. Erik’s friends from Camp are very welcome and encouraged to attend. Please email christinakrem@campingunlimited.org to RSVP, so we can give the McInroy family a headcount of who from Camp will be attending.

Playground Fundraiser for Giving Tuesday!

Giving Tuesday was a huge success and we are grateful to everyone who donated! We are well on the way to a new and improved playground, but we are not there yet! We will be continuing the playground fundraiser throughout the holiday season. Please give what you can to make an inclusive playground possible – every little bit helps. If you are unable to give, you can still help by sharing this with your family and friends.

Here is some of the playground equipment we hope to be able to purchase for our campers:

OmniSpin Spinner

The high backed OmniSpin® Spinner offers children of all abilities valuable vestibular sensory stimulation and encourages interactive play.

Roller Slide

Not just fast and fun, the Sensory Play Roller Table provides kids much needed sensory stimulation, through the application of deep-muscle pressure from the steel rollers.

Rhapsody® Grandioso® Chimes

People with Autism or Sensory Processing Disorders find challenges with socialization, communication, play and imagination. Sensory play playgrounds attract children and encourage exploration and discovery, and provide a “just-right” experience for those seeking sensory stimulation.

Climbing Wall

The fun and energy of a rock wall can inspire us to grow, stretch and think creatively. We hope to incorporate a wall into our already standing structure.

Featured Volunteer

Mary Erickson
Mary, whose daughter Marissa has been a long-time camper, has been an incredibly helpful and dedicated volunteer over the years. She has served Camp Krem in a number of ways, from being a Member of the Board, to assisting with fundraising to providing hands-on support over the Summer, where she put her skills as a Nurse to use by assisting us with camper check-in’s on the first day of camp.
We are fortunate to know Mary and her family and grateful for all she has done and continues to do for the program!

Camper Spotlight

One of our campers, the very talented Monica Valentine, has artwork displayed in San Francisco International Airport’s Terminal 3, as part of an exhibition entitled Celebrating a Vision: Art and Disability.

If you are unable to make it to SFO, you can see some of Monica’s work here, or on her page on Creative Growth Art Center’s website.

We are proud to know this talented lady!
