Our wonderful new playground was opened in time for Summer Camp this year, thanks to the generosity of many. And what fun it is! Campers of all ages are enjoying the new swings, slides, climbing structures, sand-boxes, merry-go-round (our own “Burke”) and some amazing outdoor musical instruments. Many of the dear and wonderful ladies from HARTS, an East Bay Business Women’s Association and our auxiliary for more than 50 years, visited to dedicate the playground, named in honor of Jinni Nixon, one of their members and former board member and president of Camping Unlimited. Jinni’s son and sister attended the event as well. Our thanks to the ladies of HARTS and to our many other donors who made our new playground a reality, and one that will last for decades.
HARTS is now accepting new members, too. If interested in joining this wonderful organization, please let us know.
New members with new ideas are needed! It is a small commitment compared to the amount of fun and satisfaction we receive in return! We enjoy each others’ company as we plan and organize fundraising for Camp Krem projects. And it’s fun to interact with our vast array of ages, ranging from 27 to 92.
Currently, HARTS meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month near the Castro Valley BART station.
Our meetings are very productive and not long, usually 90 minutes with no meetings in the summer months.
Other commitments might include holding an office, making phone calls, selling event tickets, and staffing a Casino Night. Our casino night includes dinner, with a silent auction and gaming. It is our signature event, and our most successful, providing the funds for much-needed features, such as a camp fire ramp, new mattresses, and the solar heating for the pool.
